Confident Birthing Classes next series

The next series of Angi Gunther's Confident Birthing Classes will be starting on June 20th and will meet each Saturday from 10am-12pm for five Saturdays (no class on July 4th).

What is Confident Birthing?

Just as a woman’s body is designed to grow and nourish her baby during 40+ weeks of pregnancy, her body is perfectly designed for birth. A woman who is confident will trust her baby to come when he or she is ready. She will rely not only on science, but also on her inner knowledge and trust of the process to make decisions during labor. Confidence in the birth process and in her ability to cope with labor decreases the amount of pain she will feel and increases her satisfaction with her birth experience. This is important because the way a woman feels about her birth will have an impact on other areas of her life. A positive experience will have positive affects on her self-image as a woman and as a mother. Confident Birthing leads to confident parenting! Confident Birthing is based on the principles of Lamaze International and supports Lamaze’s Six Care Practices for Normal Birth. For more information on Lamaze, please visit http://www.lamaze.org/

Confident Birthing is a 5-week childbirth education series. We will meet once a week on Saturday mornings at Nurture.
We will discuss:
  • pregnancy & birth as a normal yet significant experience in a woman’s life
  • the role of pain in labor ·the emotional and physical needs of the birthing mother
  • the role of her partner and ·birth from the newborn’s perspective.

The fee for this class is $125 per couple. This includes class materials and yummy snacks each week!

Nurture Welcomes Angi Gunther

We are excited to welcome Angi Gunther, LCCE to Nurture. Angi will be teaching childbirth education and doing an early pregnancy class at Nurture. Angi tells us about herself and her services...

I am a mom to three children born in 2001, 2004 & 2008. I received a lot of information and support during my first pregnancy and birth. My husband, childbirth instructor, Doula and midwives were very supportive and confident in my ability to birth my son. Inspired by my experience, I decided to change careers and become a Birth Doula and a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator.

I LOVE teaching Childbirth. I chose Lamaze because it aligns with my own philosophies about birth. Lamaze is not a method for giving birth. It is a philosophy that women have the innate ability to give birth and have the right to labor without unnecessary intervention. The classes that I teach focus on the normalcy of pregnancy and birth, trust in a woman’s body, and informed consent. I believe that parents need access to complete information regarding their options surrounding pregnancy and birth so that they can make truly informed decisions. It is a pleasure to support families during this special time and I am excited to offer Confident Birthing Childbirth and Early Pregnancy classes at Nurture!

Prenatal Classes and Services, Care Providers, Choice of Birth Place, Doulas, Birth Planning, & More!

More on Nurturing Birth

As of today, Nutrure is officially an LLC (limited liability company) in Oregon. This is exciting news because it sets us on the path to grow and create services for women and families throughout the pre-conception to early childhood years. But more about that soon...

For now, I wanted to share my excitement about the childbirth class, Nurturing Birth, that Amy and I are hosting. As Amy said, the class has been a long time and three births in-the-making. If you are pregnant with your first child or if this is a subsequent pregnancy and you are perhaps looking for a different birthing experience or a refresher, this class has much to offer you. The class is designed to focus on exploration, support, and education to empower women (and their partners or birth support person) to prepare for the birth experience. We believe that each woman labors and births in her own way and our role is to help you learn about your strengths and fears so that you can utilize them in helpful ways throughout your labor and birth.

Making the decision to have a child is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body. ~Elizabeth Stone

Welcome to Nurture...

A few years ago, my friend and colleague Mychelle and I, Amy, got to talking about birthing classes. I had already had one child and Mychelle was just pregnant with her first. We both loved the Birthing From Within (BFW) birth preparation program, and as art therapists, our minds started churning together about how wonderful it would be to facilitate our own birth preparation classes using the BFW tenents with our own experience as art therapists.

A year later, after I had just had my second child and Mychelle was pregnant with her second, we prepared our curriculum, and had the amazing opportunity to review our ideas with Pam England herself! Today, maybe a year since we developed our curriuclum, and after several years in the making, we are very proud to begin this journey with mothers and mothers-to-be by offering our first series of childbirth preparation classes. Here's the information for the class:

Nurturing Birth
Birthing From Within/Art Therapy Birth Preparation Class
Saturday mornings, April 5, 12, 19 & 26, 9:30-1:00PM

Giving birth is a profound emotional and physical experience that can be empowering and can strengthen your relationship with your partner. We believe mothers prepare for childbirth guided by an intrinsic inner wisdom that, when discovered and listened to, can guide them to give birth in whatever way they must, and to parent in fulfilling ways regardless of the unexpected turns in the road.

Utilizing these beliefs and many other ideas from the book Birthing from Within (by Pam England and Rob Horowitz, www.birthingfromwithin.com), and guided by our own knowledge and experiences as mothers and Board Certified Art Therapists, we invite you to join us, in a safe and nurturing environment, down a creative path to birth preparation. This rich group experience emphasizes the use of artistic expression to explore relationships, while also providing information and guidance through birth education and pain-coping practices based on ideas from the book Birthing from Within. Develop lifelong friendships with other mothers and their partners as you explore the emotional, social, cultural, and spiritual aspects of birthing and parenting. Come and explore your expectations, fears, and inherent wisdom of the process of childbirth and parenting.

Additionally, cost of this group includes all the following:
  • refreshments and wholesome snacks,
  • birthing wisdom remembrance journal,
  • birth sculptures,
  • belly-casting,
  • a group blessing ceremony to honor the rite of passage. ,
and much more!

Cost: $250 per couple.
Openings will be available for those needing tuition assistance.
