Walking is a great form of exercise for just about everyone, regardless of their fitness level. And I bet you didn't know it, but there are entire organizations devoted to helping people get out there and walk.
An example of a great Portland based walking company is Wonders of Walking. Wonders of Walking has passion for competitive, fitness and social walking where everyone is made to feel welcome. All events from Wonders of Walking are designed by walkers for walkers, so no one is going to be taking down the finish line before the last walkers have crossed.
One of the events that Wonders of Walking organizes, held on July 18, is the Willamette Valley 30K Walk 'n Relay and 10K Walk/Run and Family Fun Run. The title says it all, an event that everyone can participate in.
Nurture encourages everyone to get out in the fresh air and walk. If you aren't used to walking, try it for 15 minutes, 3 times a week for 3 weeks. That's committing less than an hour a week to your long-term health.
If you are a seasoned walker, can you step up your walking to another level? Perhaps participate in a walking event or increase your speed on your routine walks.
And of course, you can always make it into a family event. Put the baby in a stroller, get the kids on bikes and leash up the dog - it's time to go for a walk.
We'd love to hear how our readers are changing up their walking routine, so please let us know.
